How Hyperliquid computes a liquidation price
A position is liquidated when its margin falls below the maintenance margin, which on Hyperliquid is half of the initial margin at the market's maximum leverage. A market allowing 40× has a maintenance margin of 1.25 %; a market allowing 3× has 16.7 %. This is why the same leverage is far more dangerous on a thin market than on BTC.
This calculator assumes an isolated position with no additional margin added. On a cross account, the whole account balance backs the position, so the real liquidation price is further away — and moves as your other positions move.
What this does not include
Funding payments, which reduce your margin over time on the paying side. Fees. And any margin you add after opening. Check the real number on your wallet page, which reads the liquidation price Hyperliquid itself reports for each open position.
